The Pyrean Sea
At the southern end of Kirhamh, between the natural Iliometi desert and the southern ocean, is a thick spread of strange, ever-fluctuating dunes called the Pyrean Sea. Some combination of geographical and magical phenomena has created an expanse of sand that acts like water. Winds from off the coast can kick up this fluid-like (but still blazing hot-and-dry) sand into waves, and storms carried in on the ocean quite quickly become massive sandstorm hurricanes.
What dangers and inhabitants which may reside or travel through the Pyrean Sea are impossible to map; though not for lack of trying over the ages. Ships from off the ocean have attempted to transition to the sand, thinking perhaps it is equivalent to water, just hotter and drier, only to have the wooden sides quickly abraded to ruin, and the ship and its inhabitants sunk and consumed by the Sea.
As such, landing or “ports” at the southern border of Iliomet is not attempted. What mapping has been done of southernmost Kirhamh has been done at a distance or with an educated guess.
